Factors that play an important role in corrugated box preparation
Flute size refers to the thickness and the stacking strength of the walls of the corrugated box. The most common fluid profiles in play are A, C, B, E, and F. The letter that comes later has a smaller fluid size. Therefore, F is the smallest while A is the largest. A flute provides a 5 mm thickness. This is an ideal thickness for transporting products that require extra strength or cushioning for stacking purposes. The B, C and E flutes lead to thinner boards.

The type of boards used.
Currently, four types of both are used to prepare corrugated boxes. The most common of these is the double-walled and single-walled boards. Alternatively, there is also a single-face board. The single face board is made of a one-liner sheet attached to one medium corrugated sheet. This board is solid in rolls and wraps the products for cushioning and protection. The single wall board has one sheet of the corrugated medium glued amidst two liner sheets. The most common type of board available in the market is the single wall one. It is used for shipping almost everything from retail displays to boxes.
The double-walled board type is when the two corrugated medium sheets glue to one another in between three liner sheets. These are used to transport heavy products or products that require strong boxes. Finally, the triple wall board is when three corrugated medium sheets are glued between four liner sheets. This is the strongest of all boards. It is most often used to transport produce bins or industrial parts.
There are two grades in which the corrugated board can be categorized. These are the Edge crush test or Mullen. Both board grades have different functions. ECT is responsible for measuring how much pressure or stacking strength a box can successfully withstand before it gets crushed. If you plan to stack boxes one on top of the other, you should go for the ECT board.
Mullen value determines the level of pressure that a box can withstand before it bursts or gets punctured. If you need internal or external resistance, this is the board that you should opt for.
