Is rhinoplasty painful?

You don’t have to worry about pain during rhinoplasty surgery because you will be given anaesthesia according to the complexity of the surgery. Some will be given local anaesthesia only, while some others will be given general anaesthesia. This will ensure that you don’t feel pain during the surgery.  Later on during the recovery, you will have to deal with some level of pain, bleeding, and swelling. However, you can manage your pain by consuming some over-the-counter painkillers as prescribed by your surgeon.

Is rhinoplasty safe? What are the risks of the surgery?

Because getting a rhinoplasty surgery or nose job is common and this procedure has been developed since many years ago, it is generally a safe procedure. However, every surgery comes with a set of risks.

Some of these risks include:

• Abnormal bleeding

• The shape of the nose looking asymmetrical

How long does rhinoplasty take?

The length of surgery will depend on the changes you want to do. The bigger and more complex, the longer it will take. Minor cases will take around 1 hour to 1.5 hour to complete. For major cases, it will take more than that, possibly up to 5 hours to complete.

Is rhinoplasty surgery permanent?

A rhinoplasty surgery is permanent. In some cases, due to growth and natural changes to the nose, the result of the rhinoplasty surgery is then affected. The form of your nose might not be as how it was after the surgery and not as how you would want it to look like. If this happens, you can opt for a revision rhinoplasty. You can go to your surgeon to consult and see if your situation allows for a revision surgery.

How much downtime is needed after rhinoplasty surgery?

At the least you will need around 5 days of downtime. Most people will need up to one week. This depends on your personal health conditions, and also your pain tolerance. Some people have a really high pain tolerance, so once the healing process begins, they are able to be up and running to almost normally quite fast. To be safe, just be ready to rest for about a week. Don’t expect to go back to work right on the day after surgery. Expect a lot of bed rest and detailed attention for your nose during the first week.

How long is the recovery time for rhinoplasty?

Although the initial recovery from the surgery itself will take about a week, reaching full recovery will take up to 2-3 years. A nose job is quite a complex and major surgery, so your nose will need time to grow and adjust fully into the changes made to its form.
