Food culture in Melbourne

The food culture in Melbourne has been on a steady rise for the past few years. There is no shortage of places to eat and it’s hard to be left disappointed by any place you choose. You can run into delicious dishes that are not only affordable but also healthy! Here is short list of restaurants I am satisfied with.

Star rating:  5/5

What makes this place stand out from the rest of other cafes is their commitment to utilising fresh, local produce as much as possible. If you want a hearty breakfast or need a quick bite to go, head down here and indulge yourself without going over budget! Their menu consists mainly of light meals such as sandwiches, salads, soups and porridge. They have some sweet treats as well, but I would recommend to try their Moroccan lamb sandwich or beef brisket with rye bread if you are headed here.

Located around 15 minutes walk from the city centre is this delightful bakery that has some of the best sourdough breads you will find in Melbourne. Not only do they bake bread, but there is also a range of other light meals like pide , falafel and salads available for lunch time cravings! I was lucky enough to have found out about the place only a few months after it opened, which meant that they still have items from their original menu available for purchase.

188-192 Victoria St, Abbotsford VIC 3067, Australia

Opening hours:  Mon – Fri 7AM– 5PM; Sat 8AM–3PM

Located in the heart of Chinatown is Cilantro Authentic Vietnamese Kitchen . The place serves delicious mix between street food and your basic pho dishes you’re familiar with at other Vietnamese eateries! Their prices are reasonable and the service is great. If you were craving a hearty meal or just want to escape from the usual Melbourne coffee scene then head down here! You will not regret it (and you might as well give the bubble tea a try too).

156-160 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia

Opening hours:  Mon – Sun 8AM– 11PM

Star rating:  5/5

Located in between two train stations (on either side) is this Japanese restaurant and sushi bar! They have a range of dishes from various soups to small plates and main courses. The prices are not the cheapest out there, but it’s worth every cent. One thing I would recommend is making sure you book a table before heading down, as they do get quite busy throughout lunch and dinner service.

218 Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn VIC 3122, Australia

Opening hours:  Mon – Sun 11.30AM– 3PM; 5.30PM–9:45 PM

Star rating:  4/5

Tucked away in a little strip of shops is this Korean joint that I can not get enough of! They have a range of dishes from soups, bibimbap to BBQ meats and seafood pancakes. The prices are reasonable and the service fast! If you’re keen for some quick Asian food then head down here and give it a try!

198 Russell St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia

Opening hours:  Mon – Sat 11AM–10PM; Sun 11AM -9PM
