Located in the Italian Alps, the Dolomites are one of the most famous mountain ranges in the world. The range covers more than 350,000 acres of land, has at least 86 peaks over 9000 feet in elevation, and is home to nine major national parks. With hundreds of trails to explore, a Dolomites hiking vacation offers endless opportunities. While it would take years to experience all that this mountain range has to offer, you won’t want to miss the following scenic trails.

1. Tre Cime Di Lavaredo Loop

If you’re looking for the best post-card ready trail in the Dolomites, the Cime Di Lavaredo Loop is a required stop during your stay. In about three to four hours, you can hike the 6.8-mile hike and experience breathtaking views of all three peaks and fields of wildflowers in the summer. However, some more seasoned hikers would suggest you visit the trail in the autumn months when there are far fewer visitors in the area.

1. Lago di Braies

While by no means a difficult hike, Lago Di Braies is the ultimate destination if you want to get up close and personal with a stunning mountain lake surrounded by jagged peaks and tall evergreens. The entire loop around the lake is a little over two miles, and you can even take a break and go canoeing or take a picture with cows photobombing in the background.

1. Seceda to Wolkenstein

This trek is located within the Puez Odle Nature Park. While there are many scenic routes stretching out from the Furnes-Seceda summit, this trail offers close-up views of the mountain and leads to the town of Val Gardena.

1. Kröndlhorn, Kitzbüheler Alpen

If you’re searching for a trail that’s a bit more challenging, this eight-mile hike is not incredibly long but very strenuous as you trek the 2444 meter, or 8018 foot, mountain. You’ll be rewarded for your efforts with many beautiful sights along the way including mountain huts, a secluded chapel, a closeup look at Lake Reinkarsee, and of course clear views of towering mountain peaks.

1. Monte Cristallo Summit

The Monte Cristallo is a set of four peaks located right in the middle of the Dolomites. For skilled hikers with some experience climbing, you can take The Normal Route, which is normally secluded from the heavy bustle of tourists.

Whether you prefer an easy stroll through picturesque villages or challenging treks through grand peaks, the Dolomites offer a trail for every kind of hiker. While you’ll struggle to find anywhere in this mountain range that isn’t stunning, these five are some of the most beautiful.
